LyoDots are based on Aluris’s popular LyoDose bead technology. Where LyoDose beads are useful in plate formats (such as 96 or 384 reactions), LyoDots are designed for cartridges or automation with 1 to 16 reactions.Â
LyoDots reconstitute immediately without exhibiting out-gassing that can complicate microfluidics. They are customizable and each dot can be attached to an adherent surface that greatly simplifies the automation of lyophilized material on assay cartridges and for point of care testing (POCT).
The proprietary adherent surface on LyoDots ensures the lyophilized reagents maintain positional correctness and physical stability while allowing production of formulated reagents to <2ul.
Why Miniaturization Matters
LyoDots allow assay developers and instrument manufacturers to create designs that were previously not possible.
- Significantly shrink cartridge design and instrument footprint
- Reduce the amount of required sample and reagent by using smaller reactions
- Less liquid means less energy is required to pump the fluid and less wasted reagent
These benefits lead to reduced overall costs while gaining the traditional benefits of lyophilized reagents.
Precision Delivery
LyoDots deliver precise amounts of your reagents, salts, and enzyme into each reaction.
Aluris customizes your assay components, including excipients into a format ready for lyophilization into the LyoDots format.

LyoDots Go Where Spheres and Beads Can’t
Profile:Â LyoDots have a very low profile making them an excellent choice for cartridges and microfluidic applications.
FAQs
Q. How do LyoDots work?
A. The proprietary adherent surface on a LyoDots ensures the lyophilized reagents maintain positional correctness and physical stability while allowing the production of formulated reagents to <2ul.
Q. What shapes and morphology are LyoDots available in?
A. Various shapes are available including circular, rectangular, and semi-spherical.
Q. How are LyoDots packaged?
A. LyoDots are delivered in sheets or reel-to-reel. Must be handled in a low humidity environment.
Q. What size and volume are LyoDots delivered?
A. LyoDots thickness 0.15 to 1.00 mm. Volume: 0.1 uL – 50 uL.
Q. Can I use LyoDots with robotic handling?
A. Yes. Use multi-axis robots/pick-place equipment with vacuum and effectors.
Q. What is the shelf-life?
A. Dependent on components, usually 2 years.
Q. What is the delivery capacity?
A. 500,000 per week.
Q. How many reactions are LyoDots designed for?
A. LyoDots are designed for cartridges or automation with 1 to 16 reactions. LyoDots reconstitute immediately without exhibiting out-gassing that can complicate microfluidics.
